I started training with Richard Kelly in December 2014. I was recovering from a physiological condition which left me with painful migraine, muscular aches and little-to-no energy. I was in my mid-forties and 15-and-a-half stone. Given I’m 5ft6 that meant my BMI sat very comfortably within the obese range. I needed to take action.
I booked myself an appointment at my local gym and given my medical history and associated trauma, the gym referred me to Richard. Five years later I continue to seeing Richard on a weekly basis. I wanted a calm, focused and understanding PT whose focus was on me and what I could do. I am fitter or healthier than at any other point in my life.
I had no training goals at first beating losing weight and improving my strength and fitness. Getting out of bed and out of the house, let alone go to a gym, was a major achievement for me at the time.
Richard helped me by setting realistic goals and by introducing me to new exercises in a way which raised my enthusiasm rather than immediately putting me off.
One of my biggest struggles was the discipline of keeping to my exercise regime. I also wanted things to change really quickly and feared that if I didn’t see results quick I would lose interest.
Richard helped me overcome my self-defeating struggles by giving me confidence that things would begin change for me; and they did and much more quickly than I could have imagined. The favourite thing about my work out is feeling is a real sense of achievement each time I do exercises which 5 years I couldn’t even do.
I would advise anyone looking to get fit and to improve their health to see a trainer at least once a week. Whichever trainer you choose, I would also recommend attending at least one cardio class a week. I like Richard as a trainer and as a person. He is very professional and amenable. I think he is one of the calmest and unflappable person I know.
I look forward to the next five years training with Richard!
