When I get asked this question, it’s quite common that the person asking me assumes that if they do enough sit ups that they’ll get a six pack as a result. Whilst it is true that you do need to build out the muscles of the core to start to reveal a six pack, the biggest determiner for abs is diet.
The reality is that when you get lean enough, somewhere down to ten percent or so, your abdominals will begin to show. That means focusing on good diet and running a slight calorie deficit to get your body fat down. It also takes some patience. It is far easy to drop from thirty percent body fat down to twenty, than it is to go from twenty to ten. Your diet has to be dialled in perfectly to get down to those percentages, especially if this is your goal.
You also cant target body fat from coming off the body in a specific area first. On men, one of the last places body fat comes off is the stomach. On women it is one of the first. This is why so many men want a six pack, because it is an indicator of an ideal leanness in their bodies.
I would suggest you take a long term view on this kind of goal. The idea of getting a six pack in six weeks is possible for some people, but for the vast majority it isn’t at all, and you would be better served by starting with a consistent training plan and a focus on good quality foods making up the bulk of your diet.
So the primary things you should be doing to get a six pack are the same things you should do if you want to lose weight well (more on that in two weeks time), but turbo charged!
